Description
Chlorella vulgaris, commonly known as chlorella, is a single-celled green microalga belonging to the Chlorophyte family. Measuring between 2 and 10 µm, this freshwater microalgae is cultivated in production tanks exposed to light, called photobioreactors, in order to control and maximise its production.
The biomass produced is then concentrated and dried into powder form.
This microalgae is mainly used as a food supplement thanks to its high protein content, corresponding on average to 50% of its dry weight. Chlorella also has an interesting content of chlorophylls, carotenoids and xanthophylls as well as a large number of essential minerals (including iron) and vitamins.
